Quality Control Methods

Sand Inspection

Sand issues are one of the primary reasons for rejecting a casting. Southwest Steel operates a state-of-the-art sand testing facility that enables us to analyze sand before use in casting.

Analysis includes

  • GFN
  • Moisture
  • Tensile testing
  • PH/ADV
  • Sieve Analysis

Chemical Composition Analysis

We employ Optical Emission Spectrometry to monitor the chemical composition of the steel we produce. OES offers us an unparalleled ability to control chemical composition throughout a heat.

Non-Destructive Testing

Non-destructive testing saves time and money throughout the QC process while also enabling us to evaluate the integrity of our castings.

NDT Services Include

  • Radiography
  • Ultrasonic
  • Magnetic Particle
  • Liquid Penetrant

Our NDT inspectors are certified to ASNT SNT-TC-1A requirements.
